Digital Looms: The Porn Placement In Metaverse

If we were to be absolutely honest, like when we are alone in our room or in the confessional, sex excites us and we cry out for it. Although it has long since left our bedrooms and reached other spheres used to attract our attention, sex still remains taboo. But is it actually so simple? The porn industry, as an area where everything related to the explicitness is in the natural setting, experienced a standstill at one point. Same old action, same old plots, and what was done then? A high-tech methods and techniques adoption. The implementation of AI, VR, and AR techniques has opened wide the door for porn to gently waltz into the metaverse without apology or at least "Oopsie!"

Although sex doings are still hush-hush, here the XXX ideas have experienced being slammed and unwanted so the taboo sign shines bright again above the adult entertainment. Adult-related motifs are lovable and sprawled all over the web, but appearance in the metaverse grounds is declared as the Persona Non Grata and has become the subject of the side eyes. Some harassments were reported and for almost 10 years now moves are being made by tech companies to raise a shield on their interactive platforms against the use of explicit motifs in the gaming zone.

Metaverse? Have We Met?

We are sure that many of you are familiar with the term, but the new Internet generation is growing up and an explanation should be given, at least in a nutshell. Metaverse is a digital plane where interactions of various kinds take place, the participants of which are represented by an avatar. It combines elements of VR (Virtual Reality), AR (Augmented Reality), and MR (Mixed Reality) to create a ground for simulating social and economic connections.

The originator of the metaverse is considered to be the platform Second Life released in 2003, which dealt with social interaction in the form of a video game, while, for example, Nth Floor was intended for work. Now there are a lot of them, but this concept has been known for a long time in the gaming world. Now that we have met  Metaverse, we can continue.

Technological Mutations Of The Adult Industry

We are witnessing that the porn industry is working hard to be on top of the game. And she succeeds because a few years ago statistics emerged that as much as a quarter of browsed content is explicitly related. Let's not lie, intrigue is the mother of success. Every novelty and trailblazer in the world of visual technology very quickly found its role in the porn industry. Simply, it was obvious that something was missing and that passive viewing had to be surpassed, so the longing to grow into something more than couch fun was very much visible.

When VR dawned, it appeared first in gaming, and immediately afterward in the porn industry. This twisting led to the fact that there is not only sexy action but also reaction - long story short we got involved in smutty business. Since then, the long-dreamed-of porn star looks us straight in the eyes, through the so-called POV (Point of View) position, while we can choose some of her moves. Things have gone even further with sex gaming where the console becomes the new weapon of choice to achieve a customized porn experience. The winner is AR in the porn industry, where the vision of our lust can virtually give us the illusion of being in the room itself. That’s one true immersiveness! It’s hard not to give in.

Banning From Metaverse?

Heard of TTP? It stands for Time to Penis, which has become very annoying because on most gaming platforms it is only a matter of time before one of the users will discover how to make a man's tool on it. This resulted in some gaming platforms such as Steam or Itch developing a prevention policy, that refers to sexual content, especially if it encourages violence, racism, sexual abuse of children, and the like. This is quite supported because if the adult industry has created its gaming zone, let real gaming stay in its position.

However, not all tech companies are eager to be this strict. Meta, for example, as owner of Facebook is restrained regarding these measures. Its VR platform Horizon Worlds has been reported several times for harassment. That caused the creation of the Safe Zone in which users can optionally prevent others from communicating with their character. A similar feature was introduced by the VR game QuiVR when an unpleasant event characterized as harassment occurred.

Another fact - one of the most widespread and accessible VR headsets is Meta's Quest, whose software is based on open source, as is the case with many other VR headsets, where developers can easily use and create sex games, and thus explicit content leaks into the metaverse.

More Things To Ponder About

One can draw the conclusion that sexual content is not very welcome in the metaverse. It seems that there are problems even in the domain of distribution of adult content by those who are supposed to do it conscientiously and whose reputation has been damaged (Remember PornHub when it was accused of knowingly marketing underage sex material!) We wonder how loosening all reins in the metaverse might reflect. Experts from the adult industry argue that the controlled management of sexual content in the metaverse could be used to democratize some sexual topics that are stigmatized, that is, to bring the issue of sexual health and well-being closer to people through the educational dimension.

Of course, there are never-ending questions, as well as practical issues that accompany XXX content from the beginning. The challenges of staying in business and aligning with the morality and culture of using the Internet are often in conflict, which is unfortunately solved more ad hoc than preventively. However, the world on the Internet is still spinning and as in real life, we face challenges that force us to innovate solutions to preserve safety.
